The end of the summer is a popular time for people across the country to move, with many families wanting to be in their new home before the school year starts. There are a lot of moving parts involved in this, and it can be easy to overlook some of the little details. Here is a list of the top 5 things you will want to make sure to have to make your move easier.

  1. Moving boxes and packing materials

    1. With the exception of furniture, the majority of your belongings will likely be packed in boxes. It is important to plan ahead and estimate the number of boxes you will need so that you aren’t stressed and running to the home improvement store in the middle of moving day. You will also want to make sure you have enough packing material like bubble wrap so that your items don’t get damaged in transit.

  2. Furniture sliders and/or a dolly

    1. When you purchase furniture weight is generally not something that you consider, but it is a big factor in your move. Consider renting or buying furniture sliders or a dolly to help move these larger items easier and avoid damaging both your home and the furniture.

  3. Food and bottled water

    1. After a long day of moving most people aren’t too inclined to take the time to cook a meal in their new home. Planning ahead with food and water will make sure that you can spend the time enjoying your new home instead, and help fuel you throughout the move as well.

  4. Sticky notes

    1. Sticky notes are a great tool to use to plan out the layout of your furniture. Take a moment to put a note on where each item will go in the new house so that you don’t have to worry about moving items from room to room after bringing it all the way from your previous home.

  5. Cleaning supplies

    1. Moving tends to be a messy process as you are hauling boxes and furniture, tracking in dirt and debris. Get your life in your new home started on the right foot by bringing along cleaning supplies so that you can tackle any messes that come up right off the bat.
