There are a lot of factors to consider when you are planning to move. Finding a trusted moving company will often be your first hurdle, but the second hurdle is planning when you will be moving. This is often a bigger hurdle as it involves a lot of logistics where you will have to navigate the moving company's schedule, your ability to complete packing in time, and your own personal availability. Here are a few things to consider when planning your move to make your transition as easy as possible:

The Time of Year

The season when you are planning to move can often have a big impact on your moving plans. Moving in the summer is often easier on your personal availability as many people are able to schedule time off work easier and children are out of school. However it is also the busiest time of the year for moving companies for this very same reason. Rates are higher, less experienced movers are brought on to handle the extra workload, and companies can be booked for months out. Moving in the winter will put you in the opposite situation. Moving companies will be less busy and therefore will lower their rates to reflect this (the cheapest months to move are generally October to March), but it is tougher on you personally as you will have to navigate the holidays and cold weather while transitioning homes.  

The Time of the Month

It is also important to consider what time of the month you are planning to move. Moving companies are often busier towards the beginning and end of the month as this is when most rental leases expire. In order to avoid a lot of the renter traffic it may be easier to schedule your move closer to the middle of the month.
