Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craft work for household use or sale. Homesteading is beginning to become more popular again as some people have begun to seek a more minimalist lifestyle that connects them to the land. Many homesteaders choose to grow the majority of their own food, plant only plants and trees that bear fruit, raise chickens for eggs, and more. It is a way to be almost entirely self-sufficient for the majority of your needs.

Homesteading is especially popular here in North Central Florida as it is easy to buy a large tract of land and build a homestead on plenty of acreage. Areas like Archer, Alachua, and High Springs are popular sites because of the acreage availability as well as their proximity to Gainesville for meeting any needs you cannot meet on your homestead.

Our agents are very familiar with the land and farm sale process; our agent Whitney Perkins even has a farm herself! We would love to have a conversation with you about farming, homesteading, or buying acreage to build your future home on. Give us a call today!
